I just returned from a 3-week surfing odyssey in the Indonesian archipelago, an annual pilgrimage for many Australian surfers escaping winter. Our closest neighbour, Indonesia couldn't be further from home culturally speaking. It's the Ying to our Yang.
My absolute favourite part of any trip to 'Indo' are the amazingly warm & hospitable people and the delicious food they pour their love into. There's a rhythm to the way of life on the island, which permeates in smiling, carefree and happy people.
There's no rush and no stress. A culture that you can fall easily into & feel damn good about doing so.
Our Indonesian Lingo Playing Cards were a hit once again, both with traveler's and locals. Through game play & language we bridge gaps & build friendships.
Indonesian food is flavour filled, well portioned and shockingly cheap. The archipelago is home to many spices, including cloves, nutmeg, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper. Hot-tip, when in Indo, eat where the locals eat. If it's busy, it's good.
Did you know the Dutch once traded the 'Spice islands' for New York?
Here's a few pictures from the trip. Hope you enjoy. Cheers, Keaton.
