The biggest takeaway from Pompeii is not that much has changed in the last 10000 years.
Roads are still stone, buildings still masonry, bakeries and restaurants still line the main streets. Some houses big, some small, some lavish some not at all.
The nice end of town has wider roads, better views and marble water fountains.
Just like today they ate dates from Syria, flavoured their meals marjoram and thyme. Ate local seafood, drank wine & went to stadiums to be entertained.
In my eyes the biggest change over the millennia is soccer (futball) has taken the place of gladiators & wolves.
