Procida, Italy

John Travolta's doppelgänger walks these streets, a tradesman, cigarette smoulders..

In the narrow streets of Procida, Vespas, trikes and e-bikes fly by. It's a small island but they drive fast here. Confidence and safety of an island. The street are paved in large granite stones, polished smooth by centuries of foot traffic.

Look at someone and they'll look at you, smile and they hold their gaze, no emotion just observation. Is this a characteristic of people from small islands? Always watching the horizon for invaders of their peaceful life.

Paint peels and plaster flakes from the facades but inside the buildings are spotless. Makes me think a polished facade is western construct? Invented to save face to the neighbours when family tradition is lost. Answer me that, ChatGPT.

Buildings are painted in beautiful soft pastels of coral, lemon and aqua. A style developed so fisherman could spot their home from the sea. Makes sense.

Highly recommend 3-days or more on the island of Procida.
